The developed finite element (FE) model of the railway track performs a fully coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM)
analysis of the railway track. In addition to the mechanical behaviour of the different railway track components,
the incorporation of constitutive models, suitable to describe unsaturated soils, allows to compute the deformational
response not only to cyclic traffic loading, but also against environmental and hydro-geological actions.
The THM FE model also simulates the runoff of rainwater enabling performance analysis of the different elements of the drainage system.
